Overview
AACC faculty and staff accounts require multifactor authentication (MFA) for all web-based sign-ins and the VPN using your employee (@aacc.edu) account.
MFA options include receiving a telephone call and approving your sign in, or receiving a number matching notification utilizing Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device.
Issue
If you recently purchased a new mobile device and migrated from your old device, you may not be able to approve MFA using the Microsoft Authenticator App. MFA will need to be set up on the new device.
Instructions
Setup Authenticator on New Phone
-
If you migrated your settings from your old phone to your new phone, you'll need to delete your account from Microsoft Authenticator on your new phone first.
-
Navigate to the MFA contact options (https://aka.ms/mfasetup) on your computer.
MFA Settings
-
Sign in with your full administrative email address (ex. rhawk2@aacc.edu).
-
Approve your sign in with an option other than the Microsoft Authenticator app (ex. phone call). If you do not have any other sign-in methods, call the Technical Service Desk and ask to have your MFA settings reset. After confirming your identity, the Service Desk can clear your MFA settings and re-require registration.
- If the Service Desk re-required registration on your account, you'll see the message below when attempting to sign in. Select Next.
- If you approved your sign in with an alternate sign-in method, you'll be redirected to Security Info. Delete your previous Microsoft Authenticator app and then select + Add sign-in method to set up Microsoft Authenticator on your new phone.
- Select Authenticator App from the drop down, then select Next.
4. Select Next
- Using your new phone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app. If not prompted to set up a new account, select the + button in the top right corner. Select Work or school account and Scan the QR code. Select Next.
- If you don't already have the Authenticator App on your new phone, you can download it from the Apple App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android).
- Launch the Authenticator App on your new phone.
- Select Add account and then select Work or school account.
- Select Scan QR code and scan the QR code from your computer screen.
- You may be prompted to approve sign in and save your settings.
Troubleshooting
If you’re still having trouble with adding your new device, go into the Authenticator App on your phone, click on your account.
Select the Setting icon, in the upper right.
Select Remove Account.
Try adding the account again.
*NOTE: If you didn't provide alternate contact info when you initially set up MFA, you'll be unable to follow step 4 above "I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now." Please contact the Technical Service Desk or submit a request using the Remote Access Support service offering.
