Overview

All students have access to a virtual desktop containing both accessibility applications and various instructional applications. In order to connect you need an AACC student account and a device with an internet connection.

Accessibility Applications include:

JAWS - Job Access With Speech (JAWS), is the world's most popular screen reader, developed for computer users whose vision loss prevents them from seeing screen content or navigating with a mouse. JAWS provides speech and Braille output for the most popular computer applications on your PC.

ZoomText - ZoomText is screen magnification software for the Microsoft Windows operating system. It allows you to change screen colors and magnification levels, customize the mouse pointer and text cursor to make it easy to find them, and turn on a focus rectangle to help you track where you are on the screen. 10 licenses. Get many updates/year. JAWS within Fusion works differently than the stand-alone version.

Kurzweil - Kurzweil® 3000 is an award-winning, research-based, assistive technology tool helping students with learning disabilities, those diagnosed with dyslexia, dysgraphia or other literacy challenges.

NVDA - NVDA allows blind and vision impaired people to access and interact with the Windows operating system and many third party applications.

Equatio - EquatIO is a piece of software that runs on your desktop or browser and allows you to read, write and listen to mathematical material.

Access - Microsoft Access is a database management system from Microsoft that combines the relational Access Database Engine with a graphical user interface and software-development tools.

Adobe Creative Cloud - Adobe Creative Cloud is a set of applications and services from Adobe Inc. that gives subscribers access to a collection of software used for graphic design, video editing, web development, photography, along with a set of mobile applications and also some optional cloud services.

Auto Cad - AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design and drafting software application.

JAVA - Java is a high-level, class-based, object-oriented programming language that is designed to have as few implementation dependencies as possible.

Maple - Maple is math software that combines the world's most powerful math engine with an interface that makes it extremely easy to analyze, explore, visualize, and solve mathematical problems.

NetBeans - NetBeans is an integrated development environment for Java. NetBeans allows applications to be developed from a set of modular software components called modules.

Solid Works - SolidWorks is a solid modeling computer-aided design and computer-aided engineering application.

Things you need to know

  • JAWS (screen reader) will automatically launch upon start up. To disable JAWS, exit the JAWS application or press Insert+ F4.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud is available to students in specific courses due to licensing requirements.
  • Please let us know if you need access to other applications. Pending compatibility with the environment and licensing requirements, we can update the environment.
Instructions

To access the Azure Virtual Desktop, launch the Remote Desktop application.  For instructions installing Remote Desktop, see the following knowledgebase article: Accessing Virtual Desktops in Azure

In the task bar, select the General Desktop icon.

Enter your AACC password.

Double click the AACC Accessibility Programs folder to see the list of applications available.
