This article will also cover troubleshooting steps for audio and video issue during a Zoom meeting.

Issue

Testing Your Audio before joining a meeting. This is for both Windows and Mac computers.

  1. You can test your speaker and microphone before joining a Zoom meeting. This can be helpful if you haven’t enabled the “Automatically join audio by computer when joining a meeting” option, click the Test Speaker and Microphone button.
  2. After selecting the Test Speaker and Microphone button, a display window will open for you to test your speakers. If you don’t hear the test sound click no to switch your speakers until you hear the test sound. If you do hear a test sound initially, click yes to continue on to the microphone test.
  3. If you don't hear an audio replay, use the drop-down menu or click No to switch microphones until you hear the reply. Click Yes when you hear the replay.
  4. Click on the “Join with Computer audio” to exit the speaker and microphone testing.

Testing your audio settings when you are already in a meeting.

  1. While in the meeting click on the arrow next to the Mute and Un-mute Icon. This will mute and un-mute your Microphone.
  2. Click on the Audio Options and this will open up your audio settings. Once you open your Audio Options you can select Test Speaker.

Test Your Speakers While in a Meeting

  1. Click on the Test Speaker button to play a test sound.
  2. If you didn’t hear the test sound try selecting a different speaker from the menu or try adjusting the volume.

Testing Your Microphone While in a Meeting

  1. While in the Microphone section the Green Input Level will move up and down when Zoom is picking up audio from your PC.
  2. Click on the Test Microphone button to test your Microphone.
  3. At this point your audio will start recording, you can click on the Recording when you are done testing and it will play back. If you are having trouble with playback on this Microphone you can select another Microphone from the menu or adjust the input level.
  4. You can have the input volume settings adjusted automatically if you check the Automatically adjust microphone settings box.

Microphone Troubleshooting

  1. If you are using a Mac Computer with Mac OS10.14 Mojave or earlier and can’t access your Microphone, check your operating system permissions to confirm that Zoom has access to the Microphone.
