Assistive Listening Devices

Classrooms and presentation spaces in the Health and Life Sciences Building (HLSB) at AACC are equipped with hardware to support assistive listening devices (ALDs). Assistive Listening Devices are handheld devices that improve sound transmission for people with hearing loss.

Instructors must request a microphone from IIT in order for ALDs to function.

Requesting and Using an Assistive Listening Device

Assistive Listening Devices can be picked up from the Technical Service Desk, located in the Careers Center, Room 108.

When you are finished with your ALD, please return it to the Technical Service Desk.

For health and safety reasons, AACC does not provide headphones/earbuds.  Please provide your own personal wired headphones with a standard 1/8" (3.5mm) connection.

Assisstive listening device

Assistive listening devices amplify audio to a high volume level. Follow the instructions below to safely use this device:

  1. Turn on the device by pressing and holding the power button for 1 second.
  2. Make sure the volume is turned down before putting on your headphones.  Connect your headphones to the 1/8" headphone port on the device.
  3. Adjust the volume level to your preference.
  4. When finished, turn off the device by pressing and holding the power button for 3 seconds.

The instructor/presenter must use a microphone for the ALDs to function.  Instructors can submit a request here or call the Technical Service Desk.

Don't forget to return your ALD when finished to the Technical Service Desk, CRSC 108.
