Kurzweil 3000

Overview

Kurzweil 3000 is a comprehensive reading, writing, and learning software solution to assist individuals with learning differences, phonological processing, awareness, vocabulary development, reading fluency, and reading comprehension.

Instructions

To access Kurzweil 3000, navigate to any course in Canvas or select the Student Resources tab. You will see the link for "Kurzweil 3000" on the left side of the screen.

Select the button that says Open in New Tab and sign in if prompted.

To set up Kurzweil 3000 to read websites in Chrome, you will need to set up the Kurzweil 3000 Chrome app & the Kurzweil Read the Web extension. To set up these features:

  • Launch Chrome.
  • Go to the Chrome App Store and search for “Kurzweil” or “K3000."
  • Select Add to Chrome for both the Kurzweil 3000 app and the Read the Web extension.

Note: Kurzweil 3000 does not need to be installed on the computer. Only your login is required. To access your Kurzweil 3000 login information, open Kurzweil through Canvas, and you will be able to see your username in the top right corner of the page, and in the folders pane on the right.

To know your Kurzweil 3000 password, you will need to reset it. Log out of this page, and select the Forgot Password link.

The Kurzweil 3000 Chrome app will be added to your Apps page. Select the app to go directly to the Kurzweil 3000 Web App login page. The Kurzweil 3000 Web app is covered in more detail in the Web App section. The Kurzweil Read the Web extension will add the Kurzweil icon to the upper right corner of Chrome.

To set up Kurzweil 3000 to read websites in Firefox, go to https://www.kurzweiledu.com, choose Products at the top right, Software Updates, scroll down to Other Tools and choose your version. Follow the on-screen directions to install. In Firefox, there will be a Kurzweil icon in the upper right of the browser bar.

When you browse to a page with readable text, select the Kurzweil 3000 icon and log in using your Kurzweil 3000 username and password.

Reading, dictionary, and translation buttons are available to use on any web page.

Select the Options button for all of the same reading options you use in Kurzweil 3000, the web app and the iPad app, as well as changing the position of the mini toolbar.
