Password Management Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I use my password? Your email and password are used to access many college systems including, MyAACC (college portal), Student Network Account – home directory, network applications, instructional software, lab machines, Administrative Network Account (employees only) – home directory, Outlook Web App (OWA), remote access, network shares.
What information will I need to set up my password management profile? You will need to know the following information: your email will be your user name used to log into (AACC computer or MyAACC), AACC ID number (student or employee ID), your birth date, and the single-use security code provided to you via email or text message.
What information will I need in order to reset my password or change the answers to some or all of my challenge questions? You will need to know your email (this is your username, (the name you use to log into an AACC computer or MyAACC) and current password.
What is the AACC ID number and where do I find it? The AACC ID number is a unique identifier for each student, faculty and staff member. The AACC ID number is also known as a student ID, employee ID, or Colleague ID number. You can find it on your bill, bill/schedule, AACC ID card (also known as Student ID or Employee ID card), MyAACC Self Services tab (access "User Profile”), or any registration counter with valid photo ID. How do I access the Password Management Tool? Go to Password Management. Also, if you’re on campus, you can access the tool from any college computer running at least Windows 7 using the following special login and password. Username and password are case sensitive. Allow two to three minutes to access the Password Management Tool. User Name = help\help Password = help
Why do I need to change my password? Changing your password quarterly is a security best practice. The college requires all employees to do this to protect account information and college data.
What tips do you have for creating and remembering passwords? Try to create passwords that can be remembered easily. One way to do this is to create a password based on a song title, affirmation or other phrase. You also can make strong passwords by simply substituting numbers for letters or words (or vice versa). Such as: E equals 3, I equals 1, O equals 0 (zero), four equals 4, two equals 2, B equals 8, see or sea equals C, etc. Additionally, you should add a special character in the middle.
What do I do if I have forgotten my password? If you’ve forgotten your password, you can use the Password Management Tool to reset it from anywhere, 24/7.
What do I do if the phone number and/or email address is incorrect in Password Management? Attempt to reset your password using your challenge questions or with SSPR If you are unable to use those methods, contact the Technical Service Desk in person at Careers Center Room 108 or call 410-777-4357 and a representative can update your information.
What will happen if I don’t change my password before it expires? You will need to use the Password Management Tool in order to set a new password which will allow you to log in.
Can I change my password before it expires? Yes, you can change your password at any time through the Password Management Tool.
Can I reset/manage my password from a mobile device? Yes. You can access the Password Management Tool from a mobile device to reset/manage your password.
What do I do if I enter the wrong password and get locked out of my account? You have seven tries to enter the correct password. After the seventh failed attempt, your account will be locked for 30 minutes. If you cannot wait 30 minutes to gain access to your account, you may use a special login and password to access the Password Management Tool which unlocks your account: From any college computer, use the following special login and password. User Name = help\help Password = help
What should I do if I think my password has been compromised? Change your password immediately. If you have further concerns, contact the Technical Service Desk in person at Careers Center Room 108 or call 410-777-4357.
What if I forget the answers to my challenge questions? Contact the Technical Service Desk in person at Careers Center Room 108 or call 410-777-4357.
How do I change my answers to the challenge questions? Access the Password Management Tool and provide your username and password. After the identity verification process you can select “Set up Secret Questions.” You then can modify any of your answers and when complete, choose “Save.”
How often do I need to answer the challenge questions? You are required to provide the answers to the challenge questions (or request a security code) any time you use the Password Management Tool to reset a forgotten password. 
Are there any restrictions on my challenge question answers? Yes, you can’t provide the same answer for more than one question.
What suggestions do you have for creating answers? When providing answers to the challenge questions, we have the following advice: Answers can be anything you like. You don’t even have to answer the actual question as long as the answer is something you will remember. Provide simple, short answers as these are easier to remember and type correctly. Answers should be memorable. Sometimes the first thing that pops into your mind is the best. Remember, no one else can see your answers so don’t worry about how you answer the questions.
Can anyone see the answers to my challenge questions? No. Only you can see your answers to the challenge questions.
How many tries do I get to answer the verification or challenge questions correctly? You have seven attempts to answer any verification questions correctly, such as the birth date, user name, AACC ID number or challenge questions. If you have a cumulative seven failed attempts, your Password Management Tool access will be locked for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes has elapsed, your access will be unlocked and you can try the identity verification process again through the Password Management Tool. If you cannot wait the 30 minutes to gain access to your account, contact the Technical Service Desk in person at Careers Center Room 108 or call 410-777-4357 to assist you.
