Overview
The OneDrive client should map your Documents folder to OneDrive. You can tell if it did not automatically map by opening File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) and checking the Documents folder. On a Mac, you can also right click (ctl click) on the Documents folder and select Get Info.

If your OneDrive did not automatically map to your Documents folder, follow the instructions below:
Sometimes the OneDrive client does not map automatically. You can manually map the folder by following these steps:
- Select the OneDrive application from the task bar. Select the Settings Gear in the top right corner and choose Settings.
- Select the Backup tab and then select Manage backup.
- On the Manage folder backup screen, select the folders that you wish to synchronize to OneDrive. IIT recommends syncing your Documents and Pictures. Syncing your Desktop is not recommended due to system configurations. Do not save important files to your Desktop (not backed up).
- Please note backing up the Desktop and Pictures folder to OneDrive will need to be performed on each machine you log in to, otherwise these folders will not be backed up for that machine.
- Select View Sync Progress to view the progression of the synchronization or close the screen by selecting the X in the upper right corner.
- Select the OneDrive application from the Menu bar. Then, select the Settings Gear in the top right corner and choose Preferences.
- Select the Backup tab, and then select Manage Backup.
- On the Manage Folder Backup screen, select the folders that you wish to synchronize to OneDrive. IIT recommends syncing your Documents. Syncing your Desktop is not recommended due to system configurations. Do not save important files to your Desktop (not backed up).
Please note, backing up the Desktop folder to OneDrive will need to be performed on each machine that you log in to, otherwise these folders will not be backed up for that machine.
